A board game played with dice and counters, players gather their pieces in a corner and then attempt to systematically remove them from the board.
It is also known as the "Golden Point." Golden points are 5 points for yourself and 20 points for Golden Anchor (5 points against opponent). If you have a golden anchor, it's much harder for your opponent to build an effective prime against these checkers compared to 24 point checkers.
History
The white gammon actually started not far from Troy (today's Anatolia, Turkiye). Its oldest ancestor may have come from ancient MesopotamiaSpecifically Sumerian. If you don't remember exactly where Sumer was, I'll throw you a bone: South Iraq, to a 21st century man.
Origins.
Backgammon is one of the oldest existing games along with go and chess. It was probably about 5,000 years old and originated in modern-day Iraq, formerly Mesopotamia. Recent evidence supporting this was found when this very early dice was found in the area.
How it worksRunning games are the simplest backgammon strategy. It involves turning your checker towards your home board as soon as possible. As you can imagine, if both players play running games, they will win the game no matter who rolls better.
Five points are deep on the homeboard and along with six points provide an effective barrier to entry when the opponent tries to come back in from the bar. For example, if the opponent rolls high (6 or 5), re-entry will fail and a significant number of pipes will be wasted as a result.
3-1 Opening Rolls are played at 8/5, 6/5, which always holds 5 points. First-time players may be surprised that such a low roll is considered the best opening in backgammon, which, in the end, only moves checkers forward by four pies
Finishing. The player who removes all pieces first wins the game. If the opponent removes more than one piece, it wins a single game and the current stake is forfeited. If the other side hasn't taken any pieces off, this is a "gamon" and is worth twice the current stake.
Take note
Backgammon is a game of technology, and the more skills you have, the more likely you are to win. It has been proven time and time again in tournaments and game results. But it only proves in the long run. In the short term, almost everyone can beat a person given enough luck, and when there is a die, you are lucky.
